Part 1: Everything
With her husband Waymond, middle-aged Chinese American immigrant Evelyn Juan Wang owns and operates a laundry. They had Joy, a daughter, and fled to America two decades before. The Federal Revenue Service is inspecting the laundry (IRS). Evelyn's demanding father, Gong Gong, is in town for her Lunar New Year celebration while Waymond is attempting to serve her with divorce papers. Evelyn introduces Becky to Gong Gong as Joy's "close friend" despite her reluctance to accept the lesbian connection between Joy and her non-Chinese lover.She has made a "everything bagel" that resembles a black hole and is topped with everything, which appears as a toroid singularity and has the potential to wipe out the multiverse.
Evelyn is equipped with verse-jumping technology so she can battle Jobu's henchmen as they approach the IRS building. She learns about alternate universes where she took various decisions and succeeded, such as becoming a film star and a kung fu master. She also finds out that Waymond intends to get divorced. Being the biggest "failure" of all Evelyns in the multiverse, Alpha-Waymond thinks Evelyn has the ability to vanquish Jobu. Alpha-Gong Gong takes control of Gong Gong and orders Evelyn to kill Joy in order to prevent Jobu from using her as a portal into Evelyn's realm. Evelyn declines and chooses to take on Jobu by repeatedly verse-jumping to empower herself. Alpha-Gong Gong sends soldiers after Evelyn because he thinks she has a compromised mentality like Jobu. When they are engaged in combat, Jobu finds Alpha-Waymond in the Alphaverse and kills him. Evelyn's psyche fractures when Jobu meets her in her realm, and she loses consciousness.
Part 2: Everywhere
Together with Jobu's, Evelyn's consciousness involuntarily swings between other realities. When eliminating the Evelyns who don't share her perspective, Jobu explains that she doesn't want to battle and has been looking for one Evelyn who can understand that nothing matters. Evelyn is accompanied by her as she explains her desire to utilise the everything bagel as a means of allowing both herself and Evelyn to actually die. Evelyn is convinced after peering into the bagel and begins acting nihilistically in her other universes, harming people around her.
Waymond begs everyone in her realm to quit arguing and to instead be nice, even when life is confusing, as Evelyn is ready to enter the bagel with Jobu. After experiencing an existentialist revelation, Evelyn resolves to take Waymond's absurdist and humanist counsel and use her multiverse abilities to discover what harms and delights others around her. By doing this, she neutralises Alpha-Gong Gong and Jobu's warriors and heals the harm she caused in the other universes. Evelyn makes up with Waymond in her home world when he persuades her to let them redo their taxes, informs Gong Gong about Joy and Becky's relationship, and chats with Deirdre. Jobu chooses to go into the bagel by herself while simultaneously pleading with Evelyn to let her go in her own reality as Joy. Evelyn assures Joy that she would always want to be with her even if nothing made sense and even if she could be somewhere else in the multiverse. Jobu is saved from the bagel by Evelyn and the others, and Evelyn and Joy hug.
Part 3: All At Once
The family returns to the IRS facility later, once their relationships have healed, to file their taxes again. Evelyn's focus briefly shifts to her alternate selves and the multiverse while Deirdre speaks before she refocuses on her own realm.
