Wow, Elizabeth Olsen does Candy Montgomery so well and flawlessly that I'm impressed. I haven't seen the other version of the show on Hulu yet, but I'm eager to keep watching this one because it makes me nervous and I'm curious to see how far the series will go.
The acting abilities of this group are flawless thus far, and Elizabeth Olsen's performance is on another level. Despite the fact that it is based on a true story, I hope that everyone would give it a try. I would absolutely suggest it to everyone who enjoys watching shows that keep them on the edge of their seats and engrossed in the plots and characters. Since it airs on Thursdays, I must say that I'll continue to watch it. I find it incredible that it is based on a true story, complete with actual incidents and other things.

Love & Death Storyline/Plot

Elizabeth Olsen portrays the legendary Candy Montgomery in her first television series since the Disney+ smash WandaVision in 2021. Candy Montgomery was a real person who murdered the wife of the guy she was having an affair with in 1980. The 1984 book Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs, by Jim Atkinson and Joe Bob Briggs, is the basis for the HBO Max limited series Love & Death. Olsen plays Montgomery, a God-fearing housewife adored by her small Methodist community in Collin County, Texas, before the turn of events that would upend many lives.

What happens in Love & Death?

When we first meet Candy, she has a contagious sweetness about her that makes her seem like a wonderful wife to her husband, Pat Montgomery (Patrick Fugit), and mother to her children. It appears like Candy and her husband are having marital problems, and it is obvious that she feels less wanted by her spouse than she would want to. So she decides to have an affair with Allan Gore (Jesse Plemons), a longtime acquaintance who is married to Betty Gore (Lily Rabe) and a member of her group of church pals.
As their rendezvous grow more frequent and their love affair intensifies, the couple decides to break up. However, Betty discovers the affair and confronts Candy. When Betty attempts to kill Candy with an axe because of her rage, Candy fights back and slays her. Candy first tries to get around the legal system by lying and delaying her surrender, but the police ultimately catch up with her, and Candy is placed on trial for the murder of Betty Gore.
The ethical ambiguity of the homicide, with its ties to self-defense and childhood trauma, made the trial a national phenomenon. The judge asks to shift the trial to a larger courthouse in the show because Candy's trial draws throngs of reporters, photographers, and viewers. In the end, Candy is cleared of all charges, just like in real life. Nevertheless, she makes the decision to relocate her family to Georgia after the trial tarnished her name.
At the conclusion of each episode, the show informs viewers that although it is "a dramatisation of actual events," it is based on a true narrative. For dramatic effect, dialogue, settings, and certain events have been changed or invented. Following the 2022 Hulu miniseries Candy starring Jessica Biel and the 1990 CBS film A Killing in a Small Town, Love & Death is the third adaptation to use this case as its subject. The television critic for Rolling Stone, Allen Sepinwall, stated in his review of the programme, "If you've seen Candy, you not only already know all the details, but will be shocked by how many of the beats of the story are presented in identical fashion," pointing out that what seems like a "half-dozen scenes" are actually made up of several different scenes.
Lesli Linka Glatter, the show's director, admitted in a D Magazine interview that she was still interested in delivering the narrative even if viewers could already be aware of how it ends. She explained, "This is about a Texas town and its inhabitants. "I fell in love with every single one of them, but those characters also had a big void inside of them. I was attracted by the fact that it was a mile wide and empty. "The story was so juicy, and the characters were complex and human," Glatter continued. You don't come across a nice, sentimental community series with an axe murder very frequently.
